Simple Trick to Fix Broken MBR

"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". This is the bios saying if there are no boot device or broken MBR of hardisk. Several weeks ago I have found a PC said like that. I have tried to repair it with the OS installer CD but the result still the same. Apparently the OS installer CD just repair the system, not the MBR. There is another choice, reinstalling OS, but why do we do more difficult thing and reducing our time if there is simple thing we can do... That's right, we can fix the mbr.

I have fixed the mbr with grubdos, just simple way and simple thing to do. Thanks for the grubdos finder he he... Here are the steps for windows OS :
  • Install grubdos with grubdos installer. Download here for the installer. Change the setting environment as same as this picture. Just two parameters, chose the disk (if not appear click refresh button) and part list is Whole disk (MBR) (if not appear click refresh button).then click the install button.

  • Place this glrdr and menu.lst on root directory of the part of system (usually C:\ for windows os ). I have change the menu.lst to stright boot (the grubdos boot menu will not appear) and make tempalate for windows xp (ntldr) and viesta or seven (bootmgr).
That's it, just two steps. So far I have done it successfully for 3 PC and 1 laptop. I hope you can do it successfully too if having the same problem. Good luck.......
